Packing for men
Packing for ladies
A woman's ihram is her ordinary modest clothing — no special garment is required. For dress specifics during ihram, follow the guidance of your scholar or group aalim.
Packing for kids & babies
Most airlines carry a stroller/pram free in addition to your allowance — it's gate-checked. Strollers are restricted in the mataf at peak times, so a baby carrier is gold for tawaf.
Comfort, health & smart extras
The 5 packing rules that save Umrah trips
- Leave 5.5 kg spare for the return. The sealed 5-litre Zamzam container weighs ~5.5 kg. On airlines that count it inside your allowance (like IndiGo), a full suitcase going means excess charges coming back. On Saudia and Air India Express it flies free and extra — check your airline in the Zamzam rules table.
- One Ihram set in the cabin bag. Checked luggage gets delayed. Ihram is unstitched cloth — fully cabin-legal. If your suitcase is late, your Umrah isn't.
- Unscented everything. In the state of ihram, scented soap, perfume and attar are off-limits — pack unscented soap, shampoo and moisturiser, and keep the attar sealed in checked baggage for later (bottles over 100 ml can't fly in the cabin anyway).
- Break in your shoes before you fly. A typical Umrah day is 8–15 km of walking on marble and streets. New shoes = blisters = a painful tawaf. Walk in them for a week at home first.
- Weigh everything the night before — both ways. A ₹500 luggage scale beats a ₹5,000 excess-baggage bill. Cabin limit is 7 kg on nearly every airline on this corridor — check your bag's size here in 5 seconds.
What NOT to pack (or pack carefully)
- Cabin-banned: blades of any kind, liquids over 100 ml, aerosols — checked baggage only.
- Checked-banned: power banks and spare lithium batteries — cabin only. (Yes, opposite of the blades rule — this is the #1 confiscation at check-in.)
- Zamzam in your suitcase: never — it travels as its own sealed, tagged piece. Full rules by airline.
- Excess valuables: heavy gold and large cash invite customs questions on return. Carry what you need.
- Scented attar in cabin: over 100 ml gets binned at security. Seal it, bubble-wrap it, check it.
FAQs
What should I pack for Umrah?
Documents (passport, visa/Nusuk permit), Ihram for men, abayas and hijabs for ladies, unscented toiletries, broken-in walking shoes, medicines with prescriptions, SAR cash, a power bank (cabin only) and a luggage scale. Use the interactive list above — it covers all of it.
What is the Umrah packing list for ladies?
2–3 comfortable abayas, several hijabs, regular modest clothing (a woman's ihram is ordinary modest dress), walking shoes, unscented toiletries, prayer clothes, a travel prayer mat, and a small under-seat handbag for tawaf essentials.
Can I carry Ihram in cabin baggage?
Yes — it's unstitched cloth, fully allowed. We recommend it: keep one set in the cabin bag in case checked luggage is delayed.
What should NOT go in cabin baggage?
Blades (razor, scissors, nail cutter), liquids over 100 ml, and Zamzam water. Power banks are the reverse — cabin only, never checked.
How many kg can I carry for Umrah?
Cabin: 7 kg on almost every airline here. Checked: typically 25–30 kg on Saudi routes by airline and fare. Plan the return with 5.5 kg spare for Zamzam if your airline counts it inside the allowance.
